YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Instagram, Snapchat, video games, and many others represent the modern language of this era and this generation. Modern means of communication and social media have contributed to bridging distances and solving many problems that arose decades ago, thus helping to strengthen the social bond. However, we cannot deny that the matter has devolved from the stage of benefit to the stage of flaw and harm resulting from its unethical or improper use.
There is no denying that modern technologies have facilitated certain aspects of our ways of life and improved its quality in a way that made it more advanced.
We are witnessing this in many areas, in education, as you can study remotely in the greatest international universities without having to travel, also in the medical sector, leading experts in the field can perform surgeries remotely thanks to modern digital technologies. We find the same thing in cosmetic therapy, in transportation, in architectural design technology, as you can smartly conceive your home in which there are all the systems and programs that make your life more accurate, easier, and safer. Modern technologies are also leveraged in online selling and buying as well as launching large-scale projects with global economic impact without the need to have offices everywhere. Those were some examples but there are many others that show the importance and usefulness of modern technologies in several domains.
But recently, there has been a significant decline in the use of modern technologies by young people in areas that positively affect their lives or in a way that contributes to the development of their personalities and their intellect together with the progress of their future. In most European countries, young people do not finish their studies at university or post-graduate level and turn only to professional studies. Or they drop out of school and work as freelancers or in entrepreneurship or others, some start micro-projects… There is no doubt that there are those among them who will succeed but this tendency has become a strange phenomenon. Having your own project doesn’t eliminate having a high scientific specialization.
The phenomenon of living in virtual life has pushed the majority of young people to look for ways to quickly earn money just to show others that they are enjoying a luxurious life, but in reality, it has no meaning or value. There are more than millions of people who are copies of others in a way that if you ask anyone about their profession, their answer would be ” influencer”, especially in fashion or, bodybuilders showcasing their bodies or content creators on social networks. In addition, we notice that most of them are school dropouts or that their real lifestyle is different from the virtual one.
A question arises here why do youngsters and the majority of people pay no attention to the importance of modern technologies? Why don’t they leverage the power of media for personal development and for life in general and turn only to digital platforms to flaunt their bodies and wealth or to search for media shows only at the expense of morals and principles, even if it costs them to abandon their life constants.
We find many people fighting for attention and admiration as well as the obsession to get the largest number of followers even if they are not real… And there is a lot to say regarding this topic.
There is no doubt that social media promoters, which have become quite widespread, are mainly aimed at increasing the number of users and do not care about the negative societal outcomes of this and their primary concern is profit and competition. And most funders consider that investing in the creation of new online platforms is one of the fast-paced means of making money, and it is not geared towards awareness-raising, education, and support for social communication, as some claim.
However, many are not aware that there are many complaints against most online platforms in which awareness and protection policies are missing and moral decay is dominating. This poses a source of danger for all new generations as it alters their minds and leads them to submit to the mazes of virtual life, thus limiting their thinking and freezing their intellect.
Some may suggest that the choice is in the hands of the user of these programs and tools, on the one hand, this is true, but on the other hand, to which I adhere, that the bewitching elements and the permanent and semi-daily promotion policies of these platforms contribute to destroy and change many positive concepts. This also plays with the minds of young people, especially those under 15 years by hysterically driving them to these rabbit holes with no certain exit as they only follow their instincts and not their minds.
Positive measures for managing social media and modern technology
- Changing some aspects of your daily life to manage social media in a way that does not negatively affect your way of thinking and your balanced social life.
- Using social media only when it supports you in one of the areas in which you seek to achieve success and validate yourself, for example, if you are talented in the world of painting or fine arts and you want to market and present yourself and your works.
- Making sure that the means of communication and social media are part of the tools that help you to develop your personal or professional networks.
- Avoiding the use of social media as a tool for fun and as a way to escape the reality that you can not handle or enhance.
- Using social networks as a tool to navigate and discover different ways of living while developing and expanding your future horizons.
- Ensuring that the purpose of your presence on electronic platforms is not to show people what is available or what is common and to adopt it with its negative aspects without purification.
- Managing online platforms properly in a way that contributes positively to your self-development and to the blossoming of your personality at various levels.
